A Study on the Influence Factors the Attitude toward Human Rights of Certified Caregivers

Abstract
This study is an research on the attitude to human rights of certified caregivers working at long-term nursing homes for senior citizens, aiming to develop efficient education programs with a purpose of strengthening the awareness toward human rights of the caregivers. For this purpose, the researchers conducted a questionnaire survey of 138 certified caregivers working at long-term nursing homes for senior citizens. According to the results of this survey, the attitude to human rights of certified caregivers was above the average level with a score 3.39 even though there were some disparity depending on sexes and types of caregiving institutions they¡¯ve been working for. This study also showed that the major factors affecting their attitude toward human rights were sex, education, and cognitive empathy, etc. With these results in mind, we researchers suggested that there should be several policies to be established in oder to strengthen the awareness toward human rights of the caregivers; They are as followings. 1) The need to increase training time for human rights within caregiver training courses. 2) The need to hold continuous training for human rights. 3) The need to require academic qualification for caregivers. We researcher also suggested some practical ways to carry out these aims as followings. 1) A need to develop practical, efficient education programs according to the characteristics of caregivers. 2) A need to develop cognitive empathy training programs for boosting their capability to sympathize the beneficiaries(clients). 3) A need to publish and distribute human right training manuals according to the types of nursing homes. 4) A ned to conduct researches on the actual conditions of human rights violations happening at nursing homes.
